Laugh it up fuzzball

  • advCo: I also started on the pass rear corner which is all buggered up and pretty complex. Ends up being 6 pieces once its all said and done. Inner fender, wheel well piece, rear corner and rear wheel arch section, battery tray and a D pillar repair
    Feb 13, 2019, 10:41:05
  • advCo: Yeah, I don't need it to look 100% perfect but i want it to be all steel and as close to original as I can come
    Feb 13, 2019, 10:41:39
  • SONIC.: Frustrating when those premade patch panels dont fit eh
    Feb 13, 2019, 10:42:12
  • advCo: Once the rust repair and paint is done, I'll be doing a custom-ish camper interior from scratch
    Feb 13, 2019, 10:42:15
  • advCo: Haha, yeah. The cheap ones never do. Luckily there are a couple companies making really good panels for Bays now.
    Feb 13, 2019, 10:42:45
  • SONIC.: I've done cab corners on some old trucks and they never line up like they should
    Feb 13, 2019, 10:42:45
  • advCo: I'm fabricating as much as I can in house, too.
    Feb 13, 2019, 10:43:05
  • advCo: But I'm limited as all I have is a small brake, shrinker stretcher and hammers and dollies
    Feb 13, 2019, 10:43:27
  • SONIC.: what more do you need really?
    Feb 13, 2019, 10:44:17
  • advCo: Ideally a bead roller and an E wheel and I'd be able to make anything I could ever need
    Feb 13, 2019, 10:44:47
  • SONIC.: and smash the shit out of your fingers
    Feb 13, 2019, 10:45:42
  • advCo: I tried 3d printing a stamping die but it collapsed under the pressure lol
    Feb 13, 2019, 10:45:43
  • advCo: Lol yeah well I do that anyways
    Feb 13, 2019, 10:46:15
  • SONIC.: well if you need anything feel free to reach out, I've got CNC mill, plasma and router. Send me a file and I'll make it real
    Feb 13, 2019, 10:46:40
  • advCo: Right on man, appreciate it
    Feb 13, 2019, 10:49:25
  • irk miller: I'm trying to decide if I want to cut out the front of the PO's floor on my Bug and replace it with the front patch panels.
    Feb 13, 2019, 11:21:09
  • irk miller: He didn't do the best job on the floor, so I really want to redo all of it.
    Feb 13, 2019, 11:21:32
  • advCo: What did he put in?
    Feb 13, 2019, 11:21:33
  • irk miller: Flat sheet
    Feb 13, 2019, 11:21:40
  • advCo: Yeah, no strength there. Bug pan halves are cheap
    Feb 13, 2019, 11:22:02
  • advCo: Do you have OG seats and rails in there?
    Feb 13, 2019, 11:22:24
  • irk miller: It's on a tube frame, so it's plenty strong, but yeah they're what like $150?
    Feb 13, 2019, 11:22:27
  • irk miller: No, 1989 240SX seats
    Feb 13, 2019, 11:22:48
  • irk miller: Which is funny, we built a custom 61 Bug in high school that we put 280zx seats in.
    Feb 13, 2019, 11:23:23
  • advCo: [link]
    Feb 13, 2019, 11:23:40
  • advCo: If you just need the front halves, you can get both for under $100 from CIP1
    Feb 13, 2019, 11:23:51
  • advCo: Ah yeah I just saw the seats
    Feb 13, 2019, 11:24:21
  • irk miller: Holy shit, those are cheap
    Feb 13, 2019, 11:24:47
  • advCo: Yep
    Feb 13, 2019, 11:26:01
  • irk miller: Do they still ship free to the US?
    Feb 13, 2019, 11:26:08
  • advCo: Over $100 is free shipping I believe
    Feb 13, 2019, 11:26:33
  • irk miller: Oh wait, that is US.  I thought that was a Canadian company
    Feb 13, 2019, 11:26:35
  • advCo: Yeah, I think they are canada based but they ship out of US too
    Feb 13, 2019, 11:26:57
  • advCo: I got Klokkerholm floors for the Ghia. The quality isn't the greatest but for that price if you have to massage them a bit no big deal
    Feb 13, 2019, 11:28:36
  • irk miller: I'll have to cut them up anyway.  No biggie.  I mainly just want the beaded floor sections.
    Feb 13, 2019, 11:32:22
  • advCo: Yep, that's the way to go.
    Feb 13, 2019, 11:34:01
  • advCo: What year is that shell?
    Feb 13, 2019, 11:34:10
  • irk miller: 72 Beetle
    Feb 13, 2019, 11:35:54
  • irk miller: Not the super beetle
    Feb 13, 2019, 11:36:02
  • advCo: Did all the 70's era have that vent behind the rear quarter glass?
    Feb 13, 2019, 11:36:54
  • advCo: With that kick ass foam behind it? Lol
    Feb 13, 2019, 11:37:08
  • irk miller: Yep
    Feb 13, 2019, 11:38:51
  • irk miller: I will fill that up.  LOL.  It was fun smelling it when I welded those last two trim holes up.
    Feb 13, 2019, 11:39:17
  • advCo: I bet. Do you cut the sheet metal and remove the foam then close itback up?
    Feb 13, 2019, 11:48:46
  • irk miller: No.  It's still in there.  I haven't cut them out or anything.  I may just cut a piece of sheet to that fills the inset and weld in it place and hope I don't catch on fire.  LOL
    Feb 13, 2019, 11:51:12
  • advCo: Yep
    Feb 13, 2019, 11:55:47
  • irk miller: I need to get the sound and fire blanket stuff for the interior.  I forgot how much of an echo chamber tin can Bugs are.
    Feb 13, 2019, 12:00:56
  • irk miller: My fuel pump echos loud enough to almost need ear plugs.
    Feb 13, 2019, 12:01:40
  • JustinLonghorn: I want to see this beast in person.
    Feb 13, 2019, 12:02:26
  • advCo: Haha, yeah thats for sure. We used Jute on our beetle and its loud AF. I'll probably use dynamat or something similar in the bus
